Esther Hobart Morris was the woman who successfully lobbied the Wyoming territorial legislature for women's suffrage. Wyoming did not become a state for another 21 years because of this. I will note that Wikipedia sheds some skepticism about Morris' role in this. Nonetheless, Wyoming was still the first state to permit women to vote.
