Hitting the Outlets

Thursday evening we did some shopping at the outlets.  Would you believe I bought a new pair of dress shoes.

Even in North Carolina the temperature was in the seventies.

Sit-Ins and the Civil Rights Movement

A significant part of the displays had to do with the civil rights movement.  This displayed represents the sit-ins at various Woolworth's in the area.

Entering the 20th Century


There was a series of displays introducing the development of Belk's and the department store.

Engineering "Air Conditioning"

Stuart Cramer engineered the first "air conditioning" in order to control the heat and humidity in cotton mills so that the fibers would not break up.

Here's a bale of cotton and some equipment from a cotton mill.

Levine Museum of the New South

While in Charlotte we visited the Levine Museum of the New South.  I covered regional developments since the Civil War.  This is a reconstruction of a sharecropper's home.

There was some very creative sculptures throughout the gardens.

There were lots of different varieties of deciduous and evergreen azaleas.

Center for Civil and Human Rights

It was getting late by the time we finished at the aquarium, so we didn't have time to check out the Center for Civil and Human Rights.

We were told that they are not called jelly "fish" bit turned out because they are not fish.  Everett, I took a picture of an octopus but it was too dark.
